San Diego news production company BayNewsVideo was there when authorities chased a man suspected of child-molestation onto Interstate 5. He was struck by oncoming traffic after running from the minivan he was driving.
The suspect, wanted on suspicion of committing a lewd act on a child, was arrested on southbound Interstate 5
near Manchester.
The chase began shortly after 4:30 p.m. after an attempted traffic stop, the Highway Patrol said.
The pursuit began on Interstate 15 south, it then led west to State Route 52 and north on I-5, the CHP said.
It ended south of Encinitas, when the suspect pulled over in the center divide, climbed over bushes and ran into opposing traffic, where he was struck by a vehicle.
He was taken into custody without incident.
The incident brought traffic to a standstill on I-5 at the heart of the evening rush hour.
