San Diego news and video production company BayNewsVideo provided coverage of the rescue of a dog who toppled over the edge of a cliff in Solana Beach.
The frightened animal plunged some 25 feet before becoming stuck on a ledge.
Rescue crews from Solana Beach lifeguards and the fire department saved the dog by performing the same type of rescue as they would for a human -- steadying themselves witih a series of ropes and pulleys above, before sending a crew member down to assist in the retrieval, Capt. Steve Perry said.
The relieved pooch ran off to rejoin its unidentified owner.
Perry's advice for pet owners: Be aware of where your animals are at all times. If you own property in the beach area, he advises making certain there are barriers or fences erected in back yards so that there is no easy way for a person or animal to slip over the side. And, if you're out for a stroll near the scenic coastline, be careful, Perry advises. Such cliffs, while offering beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, can be highly unstable and could give way easily.
